Most of our lives, we’ve been programmed to dream small and not to dream bigger. Our parents would say that we could have anything we want in the world as long as it seemed possible. Growing up though, we are faced with the reality that not everything can be done, despite what your parents have said. We could have anything we want, as long as it wasn’t against what people expect.
We start facing our own challenges and disappointments, and soon enough we just want to get through the day without putting in much thought on what we could do tomorrow.
When we get there, our dreams as a kid seem so small and stupid that we think we’ve ‘matured’ by letting go of those small and stupid dreams.
That’s where we’re wrong.
If you’ve ever wanted more out of your life, if you ever wanted to dream bigger or even just start thinking bigger, below are less than five different things you can start doing to get you on the right path 🙂
1. Start reading more
When you read books or even just articles, you expand your mind, every time. It’s because every time that you do, you are reading someone else’s thoughts, experiences, and personalities that you will naturally think bigger because you start to realize that other people think differently than you do.
Once you start reading better books by people who have what you want, then you can see more possibilities of what the world has to offer.
And once you start reading books by people who have been where you are and has what you want, then you can see what you can do yourself.
2. Create a vision board
It can be travel board or a simple group of pictures on your wall with the things you want to do. The point of having a vision board is to figure out what you want to do and remind yourself of them.
You can start by just having a single picture of the person you want to be, and start surrounding that photo of things you want to do. By doing this you are opening up your mind to look for more things that you may want to have, thus making your vision board bigger.
The more things you add and accomplish on your board, you’ll soon discover that you’ve built something more than you have ever imagined. And that you can do more things.
3. Surround yourself with the right people
Having people around you who supports your dreams or people you can inspire to dream bigger can help you a lot in your quest to dream bigger. By having people with the same mindset, you can share stories of how you’ve succeeded, as well as ask advice if needed. You can also help each other out if you have the same goals, accomplishing them together.
At Blvnp, I’m lucky to be surrounded such inspired individuals. Even though we have different dreams and backgrounds, we help out one another to the best we can.
Remember that you are the average of the five people you hang out with the most. What are you the average of?
4. Try more things
The more new things you can try, the more amazing things you know you can do. Take action on your dreams and start working on them. Once you do, you’ll know more about yourself, including the things you want. I’ve had multiple dreams I’ve always wanted to do that once I did them, I realized that they weren’t what I expected. And there were dreams I never knew I wanted just because I went for it.
The scarier they are, the better.
So go ahead, try new things. You never know what you’re going to get.
Pushing against the current and doing things for yourself might lead to a bit of growth pains, but that’s life. You learn and you become bigger than who you actually are.
